A few weeks ago, I met up with Lily Cain of 360 massage and Monica Levario of Verde spa to practice Ashiatsu skills and have a fun talking about massage therapy.
Here's a picture collage Monica took of us practicing.
Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy is a style of massage that takes lots of practice to perfect and keep your skills going strong.
Ashiatsu literally means foot pressure. Using gravity + controlled body weight of the therapist offers a soothing yet deep style of massage.
It's by far my favorite massage style to receive and I always love to meet new local ashi therapists! It means I don't have to travel too far to receive it. :)
I re-learned some of what I forgot in my ashi basics training by taking the time to focus on each individual movement. It's hard to believe that my very first AOBT class was three years ago. I've been studying other styles of barefoot massage over the years. Fijian massage and deep tissue barefoot massage have influenced the way I work with my feet.
- Do you like deep pressure?
- Would strong, broad, wave-like movements feel good to you versus small detailed movements?
- Do you have any health issues that wouldn't mix well with deep pressure intensive massage such as bone density issues, hernia, unmedicated high blood pressure, sensitivity to deep massage, blood clots, broken bones or currently undergoing medical treatments.
These are just a few things to consider when trying to decide if you want to experience what is sometimes described as "The deepest, most luxurious massage on the planet."
